What Warnke Method exactly is?

The main assumption of the Warnke method is that central auditory processing disorders are the cause of learning difficulties among children. They make children unable to remember the sound patterns of words they heard early in their lives. They do not know what the correct "sound" of a word is, nor do they know what letters and sounds it should consist of. Trying to cope as best they can, children create their own ways of reading, e.g. trying to recognize words as soon as they appear - they see words as pictures. This way they don't learn to break down a word into syllables, sounds and letters.

Fred Warnke has developed a method to detect and train these deficits. He proved that one of the most important causes of aphasia and dyslexia are disturbances in central hearing. He also believed that they could be reduced with proper training.

Warnke Method - for whom?

The Warnke method is addressed primarily to children from 6 years of age and to adults in whom:

- there are difficulties in reading and writing correctly
- have difficulty in speaking correctly
- diagnosed with or at risk of dyslexia
- there are disturbances in concentration
- there is impaired eye-hand coordination
- support for memory processes is needed

Diagnosis

Fourteen different functions can be investigated using the Warnke method. The child treats the diagnosis as a game, everything takes place in a playful atmosphere. Diagnostics is carried out with the use of specialized test and measurement equipment. The tasks for the child include, for example, recognizing in which ear the sound appeared first, in which ear the sound was higher or pressing buttons to the rhythm of sound signals. After the examination is completed, a detailed diagnosis of auditory processing is obtained, with the frequency highlighted, with a distinction between the left and right sides, etc.

Trainings

Warnke's method is attractive for children and adolescents due to its form and relatively quick results. Children perform tasks with the help of specialized devices, the so-called Brainboy and Lateral Trainer Professional.

Brainboy resembles a portable game console, stimulates the brain by presenting various visual and auditory stimuli. Through an appropriately selected set of exercises, it is possible to automate perception in the field of hearing, vision and motor skills, which is the basis for acquiring school skills: writing and reading. The program is adapted to the child's results - as the correct performance of tasks increases, the degree of difficulty increases.

Part of the classes is also lateral training. It consists in the fact that the child and the therapist read the same text, and through the headphones the child hears the voice of the trainer in one ear and then in the other; he also hears his own voice.

Such stimulation positively influences the synchronization of both cerebral hemispheres, which gives positive effects in the learning process.
